....so there you are, trundling down some godforsaken back road - and all ya want to do is pull out onto the main drag and hit the superhighway to fame, fortune and rock superstardom...
....but will anyone let you out....?
LIKE HECK THEY WILL!
...and your stuck there at the T junction waiting for a gap in the traffic...
so, first up in this brand new column of mine are the very excellent...
SO AM I
...a Bath band, featuring some of the best warbling i've heard for quite some time on this 'ere site of ours....
hmmmmm..... now - how DO they sound.....? well, i suppose a little like a cross between Tori Amos, (yes a female fronted band this...), and Metallica - which i mu8st admit, i rather enjoy... theres PLENTY of dynamics here.... as much light and shade as you could want...
Great chunks of chunky riff power their way from the speakers.... but this isn't just a guitarfest.... the addition of an extremely proficient piano lends proceedings a classic quality.... and it has to be said that the guys in the band know just when to ease off and allow the space to do the work....
....some truely awsome breaks go down here too.... and a very special mention MUST go to the drummist.... one of the very best that this old codger has ever had the pleasure of enjoying round these parts...
...now, i have said it before - and gosh darn it - i'll say it again.... comparisons are ALWAYS gonna be made in this industry... and there shall be, i suspect, a tendancy to make that comparison to Evanescence... which is no bad thing really - considering the monster sales they achieved.... but i must admit for having a serious preference for this lot.... there's something intrinsicaly 'British' and about them.... not quite so derivative... nor 'po-faced'...
...the tracks on thier profile are quite awsomely produced.... guitars cutting through like buzzsaws - and a bass that on occassion reminded me of Beelzebub himself gargling fresh virgins blood....
...but its those vocals that steal the show each and every time... showing grace, power, finnese and pathos... a true class act... add to this extremely well crafted and arranged tunes - played with the kind of precision that stuff of this ilk demands.... and it's altogether an all round winning package.
...i wanna see 'em.... and soon...
so i put the call out now:
"COME TO LONDON!"
...i believe you take the M4 from your neck of the woods...
....and i wouldn't have any worries about anyone letting you out...
.....turn that stereo up, and the rest of the traffic'll stop dead in its tracks.
