TRIPSTAR

ok, satiating the desires of mass hunger for reading the wordy bits that stream out of the conciousness that inhabits the wobbly grey bits between my earyflaps, here' what happened when i listened to:

BEAUTIFUL

now then, i have never in my dealings and online chattery with tripstar been able to suss which of he two in the picture that i've been exchanging digital informalities with.... but no prizes for guessing who it is that i'd like to have been chatting with....

this track opens with a strong gambit - it is one of the hardest things in the word to do - namely, programme convincing, realistic orchestral string arrangements... and an admirable job has been done here - with the deft touch of someone that intrinsically understands the interplay of the ranges available twixt the deep, deep lows of the contrabass to the mellow emotive yearning of the violoncello, through the evocative, plaintive platitudes of the viola and thence into the soul-soaring upper reaches of which the violin is capable....

...the excellent Edirol Orchestral VST plugin would be my guess.... and handled supremely well...

as the intro offers itself up, in the most sultry of ways, to he first verse... the husky vocals - placed right up front in the mix, (very intimate...) lead us into the kind of electronic based music that i only wish there was more of... there's hints of the Sneaker Pimps in here and more than a vauge allusion to Portishead... those hyper-effected vocals - but that's high praise indeed, and nothing to be ashamed of... the track itself has a gossamer, dreamlike quality to it gently tugging one this way and that... occasionaly stopping dead for dramatic effect, and like being awoken, mid-dream... and settling back to try and remeber where you were, the sublime mix of what is and what might be mingle deep down in your psyche... i only wish she were singing at me... for me... to me...

...this is as lush as it gets, and as i understand it, the album is available on itunes... and deservedly so...sublime AND sexy...

PRINCESS

...i plumped for this one as it didn't have as many plays as the others...more reminiscent of Zero7 this one - and the production - from the deep ultra compressed thud of the bass drum to he bleeps and bloops - and and the lovely subtlety of the sparkley guitar and theremin melody is ubercool...

...now aparantly she's just a princess in a science-fiction world.... and i for one would love to be there too... and in the most buckle-swashing of ways indulge in the twisty-turny romantiscism of whatever is going on behind this most sultry of voices...

this is highly evocative stuff this, charged with sexual tensions and an uplifting, though melancholic strangeness that i for one know shall stay with me for quite some time...

...best listened to late at night, i would imagine, and in the most intimate of surroundings...

Tripstar have QUALITY  written ALL over them, and the great shame is, that in amongst the pre-packaged, homogenised, pre-sterelised, pop-pap-cacky spoon-fed utra-shi*te of the commecial music world, they may never gain the recognition that they most assuredly  deserve... but who knows....

...that's why we're here, eh?

...long live the revolution.

Blimey Tarq, your reviews make me actually wanna go & buy our music (which, btw, is also now available to buy straight from our website).

You're almost right about the strings on 'Beautiful'. They were programmed 1st to get the arrangement right & then replaced with a real string section.

Couldn't afford to do the same with the strings in 'Princess' though.

All the basses & guitars are played & not sampled too.

Thanks very much for your top review & for understanding our music.

I won't tell you which 1 of us is typing this digital informality.

Cheers, Rob (oops!)

& recorded in Lillie Yard studios to boot!

A real string section was the only way to do justice to the arrangment & as you said correctly in another thread, if we truly believe in ourselves & wanna be taken seriously then we gotta invest both time & cash into it.

We know it'll pay off in the end.

with the time and effort - and knowing JUST how much actual music - i.e. notation is required to get get strings to do theyre stuff.... youd be surprised at just how lifelike the edirol plugin can sound...

...its not a case of he old one-finger wonder lucifer
